The first Water Talk workshop of the Water Reform Programme in Lebanon was held on January 20th, 2023. The event brought together over 100 participants, including key stakeholders in the water sector, to discuss important topics related to the future of water management in the country. The workshop was patronized and supported by the Ministry of Energy and Water and the four Water establishments, which contributed to making the event a success.
The Water Talk was divided into six sessions covering a range of topics such as technical and financial diagnosis of the Water Establishments, organizational diagnosis, water sector key data and performance indicators, digital transformation, water sector legislation, tariff study and restructuring methodology, and sector coordination. Each session included a presentation by experts in the field followed by an interactive Q&A discussion.
This first workshop was aimed at providing valuable information and perspectives on the challenges faced by the water sector in Lebanon and potential solutions to improve water management. The presentations and discussions provided insights into the technical and financial challenges faced by the Water Establishments, as well as the organizational and digital transformation needed to improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the sector. The workshop also discussed the legal aspects of water sector legislation and the tariff study and restructuring methodology.
The event concluded with a wrap-up by Agence Française de Développement and a cocktail reception to celebrate the progress made and to look forward to future discussions and actions and provided an excellent opportunity for key stakeholders in the water sector to come together and discuss important topics related to the future of water management in Lebanon.
